Brandon Tapia
Graduate Student

Brandon is from Chantilly, Virginia and received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech. As an undergraduate, Brandon worked with Dr. Stephen Martin on direct air carbon capture via functionalized activated carbon sorbents. Brandon also spent a summer in the Smith Lab researching molecular dynamic and Monte Carlo methods to predict gas separation performance in CANAL polymers. Brandon’s PhD research in the Smith Lab focuses on functional microporous polymers to enhance competitive sorption for CO2-based membrane gas separations. In his free time, Brandon likes to play sports, pet dogs, and hope Virginia Tech wins a football championship.
