Luca Fois
Postdoc
Luca Fois was born and raised in Milan, Italy. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, with his master’s thesis focused on the CFD study of fluidized bed reactors under the supervision of Prof. Alberto Cuoci in the CRECK Modeling research group. He subsequently pursued his Ph.D. in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, working on the mathematical modeling of detailed kinetic schemes for emulsion polymerization processes of high-performance perfluorinated polymers, under the supervision of Prof. Giuseppe Storti and Prof. Mattia Sponchioni in the CFALab research group. During his Ph.D., he spent a period as a Visiting Ph.D. Student in the Smith Lab at MIT, investigating the effect of polymer fluorination on gas separation performance. He received his Ph.D. in September 2025 and returned to the Smith Lab in March 2026 as a Postdoctoral Associate. His current research focuses on natural gas sweetening through the removal of CO2 and H2S using polymeric membranes. In parallel, he collaborates with Prof. Jeffrey Grossman in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering on a device for dry-state powder separation. In his spare time, Luca enjoys working out and spending time with friends.
