Sean Bannon
Postdoc
Sean was born and raised in northern New Jersey, where he attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and obtained his B.S. In Chemical Engineering. At NJIT, Sean conducted research in Dr. Kathleen McEnnis’ laboratory, where he fabricated polymer-based nanoparticles for drug delivery applications. Afterwards, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia under the guidance of Prof. Geoffrey M. Geise, which contributed to characterizing and understanding water and ion transport properties of hydrated polymers for desalination applications. Sean is passionate about understanding the molecular underpinnings that govern small molecule transport processes in polymers, and as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Smith Lab, he will study water and oxygen transport in polymers of interest for barrier materials, and water and ion transport in microporous polymers of interest for aqueous separations. Outside of the lab, Sean enjoys playing the banjo, fly-fishing, and woodworking.
